Cathy Cockin runs her own business, Little Miss Electrical, in Huddersfield. She trained to become an electrician while working in an office as a legal executive, but since becoming full-time in February 2017 she hasn’t looked back. She is flying the flag for females in the electrical industry.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career? 

My boyfriend Oliver

Favourite sandwich? 

Brie and cranberry toastie

Favourite band? 

The Beautiful South

What’s your best dish?

Tuna pasta bake

Most prized possession? 

My horse, but I’m not sure which – you can’t have favourites!

Favourite YouTube video? 

Kids are asked to draw what they imagine a firefighter, surgeon and fighter pilot to be and they all draw men. Then they meet them and they’re women!

Furthest you’ve travelled?

Thailand – I loved the elephants

Cats. I have a gorgeous Bengal called Pringle. Don’t tell Reggie, my Jack Russell!

If you could have a superpower, what would it be? 

Wiring houses without having to run cables to every switch, socket and light fitting. Some customers think I already have this power!

Worst haircut you’ve ever had?

When I was 19, my hairdresser made it shoulder length at one side and slowly shorter as it went around to the other side – I cried!

If you weren’t an electrician, what would you be? 

A joiner, they make stuff look so good!

Favourite tool? 

I’m a right tool geek! Probably my snips, they’re always in my back pocket

What can’t you leave the house without? 

I’d love to leave my phone but it contains everything

Ketchup – cupboard or fridge? 

Cupboard! Who wants cool ketchup!?

Starter or dessert? 

Hard one! Dessert – sticky toffee pudding please!

Ultimate holiday destination? 

I’ve been all over the world and not seen enough of my homeland, especially Scotland!

Go-to takeaway?

Curry – I’m not a big pizza fan

Scariest thing you’ve ever done?

I left my career as a solicitor to retrain as an electrician back in February 2017. I cried for a couple of days, but it’s the best thing I have ever done

Most famous person you’ve met? 

Charlie Dimmock from Garden Rescue and Geoff Norcott the comedian. I’ve featured in BBC programmes… watch this space!
