SPARKS has teamed up with the Electrician’s Guide to Everything podcast to bring you the video diaries of two electrical apprentices.

Vicky and Stewart will be letting us know how they’re getting on every month but first we should get to know them a bit, so here they are in their own words.

Vicky Frisby: “I live in Stockport and I’m studying in Ashton under Lyne at Beau Associates, which is a JTL registered private training provider. I’m working for AC Electrical based in Bredbury, Stockport.

“I’m 30 and used to be a French and German teacher having lived in France for four-and-a-half years when I was younger and deciding to move back to the UK to go to university.”

Stewart Finneran: “I live in Halifax, West Yorkshire. I’m 38 and currently studying at Kirklees College of Construction in Huddersfield. I am working for a local company based in Halifax called Select Electrical Contractors Ltd.

“I grew up in Batley, West Yorkshire and at 16 years old I joined the British Army after leaving school with poor GCSE results. I served for 13 years as a Communications Specialist and deployed on several Operational Tours – Bosnia, Iraq (three times) and Afghanistan. I left in April 2011.

“After leaving I had several jobs across a whole range of industries including telecoms, electronic manufacturing and HGV driving. I was unhappy with what I was doing and decided to have a career change. After lots of research I decided on becoming an electrician. I signed up for an apprenticeship with JTL and started the apprenticeship in September this year.”
