Get Ready For National Careers Week (NCW), 4th – 9th March!
National Careers Week is a celebration of career possibilities, tailored to helping you make informed career choices.
Here’s Episode 2, where Vicky Frisby and Stewart Finneran tell us what job they’ve most enjoyed over the past month – and what they’ve found most challenging.
Vicky, 30, lives in Stockport and is studying in Ashton under Lyne at Beau Associates, which is a JTL registered private training provider. She is working for AC Electrical based in Bredbury, Stockport.
She used to be a French and German teacher having lived in France for four-and-a-half years before deciding to move back to the UK to go to university.
Stewart, 38, lives in Halifax, West Yorkshire and is currently studying at Kirklees College of Construction in Huddersfield while working for a local company based in Halifax called Select Electrical Contractors Ltd.
At 16, he joined the British Army after leaving school with ‘poor GCSE results’. He served for 13 years as a Communications Specialist and was deployed on several Operational Tours – Bosnia, Iraq (three times) and Afghanistan. He left in April 2011 and had several jobs across a whole range of industries including telecoms, electronic manufacturing and HGV driving.
He said he was unhappy and decided to have a career change and decided on becoming an electrician. He signed up for an apprenticeship with JTL and started the apprenticeship in September this year.
You can also hear Vicky and Stewart talking to Ricky and Sam in the first episode of the Electrician’s Guide to Everything‘s Apprentice Series, below.
