The SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2016 is underway!

The SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2016 competition is underway, with the first regional winner being Matt Doe from Bridgwater College where the heat took place. Students from 10 colleges in the area took part in the regional qualifier, with the standard of competition extremely high. In order to take part in the regional heat students had to tackle a series of practical tasks on the day.

Launched in 2009, the SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year competition is an annual event offering a fantastic chance for young apprentices to test their skills and win great prizes. Over 70 students are taking part at regional heats across the country in January and February. This year the competition is being judged under the watchful eye of Darren Oates from EAL, who will be assessing students on both practical and technical merits.

Sponsors of this year’s event include Megger, Click Scolmore, Trade Direct and Wera Tools – all of whom are generously supporting the next generation of electricians by donating prizes for the regional heats and the grand final which will take place at Stephenson College on 9th and 10th March. Other companies are supporting the events, including EAL, Knipex, Stabila and ToughBuilt.
