NAPIT launch training programme for temporary electrical installation

NAPIT have launched a new training programme to allow installers to gain a qualification in temporary electrical system installation.

The new registration scheme and City & Guilds Accredited training programme will give installers a certificate in carrying out temporary installation.

The work is wide-ranging and covers public and private events, theatrical and touring shows, radio, television, film productions and similar activities in the entertainment industry.

The new registration scheme introduced by NAPIT (The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) will allow installers to demonstrate their competence to carry out temporary electrical installation work to the British Standard 7909 and highlight their capabilities to potential clients by listing on an online search that will help them be found for work opportunities.

There are two versions of the training programme available:

The programme will be available and delivered through Premier Training Academy centres and other locations throughout the UK upon request.

The programmes were designed in partnership with James Eade, a consultant Chartered Engineer with more than 25 years’ experience in the industry and the author of the IET’s guide to Temporary Power Systems.

The training programme provides a comprehensive overview of all the requirements and legislation relating to BS 7909 over ten modules.

On successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a City & Guilds accredited certificate and will be able to work competently on temporary electrical power systems.

Mike Andrews, NAPIT Group Chief Executive, said: “This new opportunity provided by NAPIT gives installers the chance to explore a different area of the industry, advance their skills and ultimately, grow their business.

“We are also working with the industry and some of its representative organisations to promote the scheme and to encourage making it a contractual requirement as the scheme develops.

“Further enhancing NAPIT’s commitment to improve standards and safety into this area of industry.”
