Matthew Taylor won the December SPARKS Learner of the Month award – we caught up with him to find out what it means to win.
Matthew, a Level 2 Electrical Installation student at Newark college, part of the Lincoln college group, was December’s winner after receiving the most public votes and won a Proving Unit from award sponsor Megger.
Matthew said “I am really happy to win the Sparks Learner of the month award as I’ve only been studying since September.
“In the picture I was doing some power circuits, a ring final circuit with a spur from a junction box and there was also a cooker circuit and a fused connection unit e.g. for a boiler.”
Matthew, who currently doesn’t have an apprenticeship, said he will be using his new proving unit along with his other tools at college.
In terms of future ambitions, Matthew is keen to become a fully qualified electrician and one day open up his own business.
His favourite thing about the industry? “You learn new things every day and you see results from your work. I am also interested in it because its always changing and there’s lots of work out there.”
