Checkatrade launches new Alexa skill to make finding an emergency tradesperson easier

In an emergency, consumers can now say ‘Alexa, open Checkatrade’ – Alexa will then open Checkatrade and ask which trade is required before asking for a location.

Alexa will then provide the top Checkatrade tradespeople within that area.

JTL launches campaign to recognise and support trade professionals

‘You’re our heroes of today, help us train the heroes of tomorrow’ recognises the role electricians and plumbing and heating engineers play in keeping people safe and warm whilst the nation stays at home.

Liam Sammon, Director of Learning & Innovation & Director of Develop Training at JTL, said: “The work of trade professionals is not only essential but is making a positive difference at this difficult time. From offering NHS workers free emergency repairs to raising money while self-quarantining – they are in fact heroes, whether they consider themselves one or not.

“A shining example of this is the 400 joiners, plumbers, engineers, electricians and military personnel who have built the NHS Nightingale Hospital in Birmingham. We are extremely proud that two of our very own apprentices from Interserve worked as part of this team.”

JTL is offering advice to those in the industry, including help with the 18th Edition and other training needs, as well as with apprenticeship queries.

JTL will launch a free online portal where installers can access free industry-related taster sessions for engaging in CPD and upskilling later this summer.

Red Arrow plans to transform a new 55,000 sq ft facility to improve customer service

Currently standing as an empty shell, the new facility will be transformed into a state-of-the-art warehouse and office space, designed with electricians and wholesalers in mind.

“If all goes to plan, our sales, customer service, marketing, technical and finance teams will all be based in the new building, together.” Sales Director Graham Lewis said.

“This will allow us to offer a coordinated customer experience. And with facilities such as the dedicated lighting scheme design, we can take out the guesswork when choosing the right products, while also providing full calculations, support and tech know-how. All under one roof.”

Red Arrow’s new facility will feature viewing galleries to showcase the latest products in operation, alongside practical demonstrations, testing facilities and technical support areas.

Graham added: “We are also changing our logistics processes – by moving away from third-party logistics, we can gain control of our own stock, allowing our customers to minimise their stock holding and maximise their profitability.”

Red Arrow is also implementing its Product Development initiative. Aimed at bringing improved quality and unique design features to their products, this new initiative will give customers a commercial advantage for their clients, installers and end-users.

The lighting manufacturer and distributor is planning to upskill their workforce through an ongoing technical programme, allowing them to train customers in the best use of the products.
