Record entries for the SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year competition!

Entries for the 2016 SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year have hit record levels, with the  highest level of college entries since the apprentice competitions were launched in 2009.

Celia Matthews from organisers SNG Publishing said ‘it’s very exciting to see support growing year on year for our competition, which runs alongside a plumbing and heating one which we also organise. Both apprentices and colleges benefit from the experience, which gives students the chance to achieve recognition for their hard work and skills. It’s a fantastic opportunity for lecturers, employers, industry leaders and manufacturers to get involved and support the next generation of installers.’

Competitors battle it out in a series of six regional heats held around the country at colleges. They are assessed on both theory and practical challenges by leading industry experts, including head judge Darren Oates from EAL. The grand final will take place at Stephenson College on 9th and 10th March 2016.

Megger is donating a package of testers worth more than £1000 to the college which the winning student attends, whilst the student themselves could win a Megger MFT1730 worth more than £1300. All finalists will receive Megger AVO410 multimeters worth over £150 each, Trade Direct is supplying £500 worth of vouchers for the winner and £250 worth of vouchers for each of the two runners up. All entrants receive a set of screwdrivers from Wera Tools and there’s also a beer cooler up for grabs from Scolmore!
