Hager aims for ‘easiest to install’ consumer units

The Design range was one of the first Amendment 3 compliant ranges of consumer units to market and has since received recognition from many industry bodies.

In response to feedback from installers and wholesalers across the electrical industry, Hager has redesigned a number of features of the Design range of Consumer Units to ensure their boards are the ‘easiest to install’ consumer units. Hager have updated the clamping system, which is featured on the popular Design 30 and available as an accessory, to improve installation methods for its latest Amendment 3 compliant consumer units.

The clamp is now tightened with one screw, while the wrap around restraint ensures that any movement of the meter tails is prevented. It also allows the use of an RCBO in the position next to the main switch avoiding the requirement to install a blank in this position.

The cable protector plate in the Design 30, which is used when bringing cable in through the rear of the board, has been updated to an insulated version which simply clips in from the back of the board speeding up installation time, while still offering protection to incoming cables.

The Design 10 bases have been upgraded in line with the Design 30 bases to offer greater rigidity and extra support for the DIN rail on larger size enclosures.

Paul Chaffers from NAPIT commented on Hager’s cable clamp update: “When it comes to ensuring meter tails are supported, a cable clamp is a fantastic idea that many manufacturers are now considering.”

Steve York from Hager said: “We’re always out in the field listening to industry professionals’ feedback, whether it be with customers, at events or through our highly active Twitter channel. On this occasion we listened to various concerns on installation methods and requirements, and consulted our team of designers to re-engineer the cable clamp and other features– we hope that it continues to make the lives of installers that little bit easier!”
