Debate: How to get more bright sparks into the electrical industry

On Thursday 22 September, industry specialists gathered together at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry to discuss how to attract new talent into the sector.

The event was hosted by Malcolm Duncan, Managing Director of Super Rod, and was attended by people from all walks of the industry including former apprentices, electrical contractors and trainers plus the NICEIC, electrical wholesalers and distributors.

Malcolm said: “Apprenticeships are something I feel very passionate about and the initial reason why I decided to create the event. The electrical industry needs bright, skilled young people who are able to keep up with the pace of technological advances and the increasing complexity of our business.

“To do this we need to show future electricians what’s so great about a career in our industry, and getting apprenticeships right is a key part in achieving that.”

Issues debated included…

The ideas shared at the event are being collated, and there will be an announcement soon about how the best ideas will be put into action.
